If you thought Apple’s M1 processor with eight CPU cores was enough to put any Intel or Ryzen processor to shame, you might be surprised to know that there’s a 32-core chipset under works already. And these are not divided into high performance and high efficiency cores. All 32 of them are high-performance cores only. Apple’s chipset can appear in Mac by late 2021 as per a report from Bloomberg. It might also show up in “half-sized Mac Pro” in 2022. 

And that’s not all, the iPhone-maker is also working on CPU designs that have up to 16 high-performance cores and four power-efficient cores. These might be used for future MacBook Pro and iMac products. And these new processors can arrive as soon as Q1 or Q2 of 2021. A good stress is given on GPUs as well. As per the report, it can have up to 128 dedicated cores. For reference, the current Apple M1 processor has eight GPU cores.

All this is a part of bigger transition that Apple is making for its processors. The company earlier this year announced that it is leaving Intel chipsets behind and is instead using its own Apple Silicon processors foor Mac products. This transition is said to take around 2 years. This means all the Mac devices with Intel processors right now, will have a variant with Apple’s own processor by 2022.

For now, only MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini come with M1 processor. However, rest of the Mac devices including the high-end Mac Pro still come with Intel processors.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to be working on an ‘all-Black’ Matte finish MacBook laptop. The iPhone maker has filed a patent for a light-absorbant matte black finish that can be used on several iDevices like iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and MacBook.
